Luckily these remain far less pricy than the competitors from the big-name areas.<\/p>\n<p>Names to recall for Aude wines, in particular, include <em>Corbi\u00e8res<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.20decorbieres.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.20decorbieres.com<\/a>), <em>Fitou<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitouaoc.com\/\" title=\"www.fitouaoc.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.fitouaoc.com<\/a>), <em>Limoux<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.limoux-aoc.com\/\" title=\"www.limoux-aoc.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.limoux-aoc.com<\/a>), <em>Malep\u00e8re<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vins-malepere.com\/\" title=\"www.vins-malepere.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.vins-malepere.com<\/a>), and <em>Minervois<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.leminervois.com\/\" title=\"www.leminervois.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.leminervois.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>In Languedoc-Roussillon distinctive red assemblages mostly include Grenache (noir, gris, blanc), Syrah, Mourv\u00e8dre, Carignan,\u00a0<span>Cinsault, but also Merlot and Cabernet. For whites Mauzac, Chardonnay, Chenin, Muscat and Bourboulenc (Malvoisie)\u00a0are also used.\u00a0The range of wines produced is very large:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Whites range for a bubbly ap\u00e9ro (Blanquette or Cr\u00e9mant de Limoux), dry table wines to accompany fish or poultry (try the Picpoul de Pinet), to a sweet and rich dessert wine\u00a0(Rivesaltes, Cartag\u00e8ne).<\/li>\n<li>Ros\u00e9s are refreshing (Minervois) and easy-drinking (sometimes too easy)<\/li>\n<li>Reds range from fruity and light to dark and potent, but the best of them remain elegant (C\u00f4tes du Roussillon, Corbi\u00e8re, Fitou, Malp\u00e8re, Minervois)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.leslabadous.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Cr\u00e9mant_de_Limoux_1531_label-210x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-579 alignright\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.leslabadous.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Cr\u00e9mant_de_Limoux_1531_label-210x300.jpg 210w, https:\/\/www.leslabadous.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Cr\u00e9mant_de_Limoux_1531_label-768x1098.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.leslabadous.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Cr\u00e9mant_de_Limoux_1531_label-716x1024.jpg 716w, https:\/\/www.leslabadous.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Cr\u00e9mant_de_Limoux_1531_label.jpg 1179w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 210px) 100vw, 210px\" \/>Among the wineries where\u00a0quality is taken seriously, some are only a short drive from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leslabadous.fr\/\"><em>Centre Les Labadous<\/em><\/a>. You might start on Limoux wines right in <em>Couiza,<\/em>\u00a0visiting <em>Domaine <a href=\"http:\/\/www.odeaanaude.eu\/catalogaude2\/anne-de-joyeuse-limoux-p-866.html\" class=\"style19\">Anne de Joyeuse<\/a><\/em>\u00a0or <em>Domaine de <\/em><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.domaine-mayrac.com\/\" class=\"url\" itemprop=\"web\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Mayrac<\/em><\/a>, or go and see <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.odeaanaude.eu\/catalogaude2\/domaine-de-baronarques-saint-polycarpe-p-1029.html\" class=\"style19\">Domaine de Baron&#8217;Arques<\/a><\/em>\u00a0in Saint Polycarpe<em>.<\/em><br \/>\nLocal specialties include the <em>Blanquette de Limoux<\/em> and <em>Cr\u00e9mant de Limoux<\/em>, classic sparkling wines\u00a0<span>invented in 1531 by\u00a0<\/span><span>monks of St-Hilaire. They predate champagne and are essentially made from a local grape variety called<em>\u00a0Mauzac<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>If you venture a bit further, several outstanding wineries invite your visit.\u00a0Examples in the Corbi\u00e8res include <a href=\"http:\/\/www.domaine-gardies.fr\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Domaine Gardi\u00e9s<\/a>,\u00a0<span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lacendrillon.fr\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Domaine de la Cendrillon<\/a>, or if you are happy to go further, see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alainchabanon.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alain Chabanon in \u2028Montpeyroux<\/a>, or B\u00e9atrice and S\u00e9bas\u00adtien Fillon on the Terrasses de Larzac.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Consider also a visit to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.terra-vinea.eu\/\">Terra Vinea<\/a>\u00a0for an adventure tour on historic wine making set in a large gallery inside an abandoned gypsum mine.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Languedoc-Roussillon produces more wine than Bordeaux or Burgundy, and prices are distinctly lower than in these areas.\u00a0But to wine enthusiasts, quality is more essential\u00a0than quantity, and\u00a0excellent wines have emerged from Languedoc-Roussillon in recent years.
